Debbi has been having contractions for about a week now. They usually start in the afternoon and fizzle out around 11:00ish. Last night was pretty much the same, but they were a bit more intense. Well, she had a bad dream she was having a contraction and woke up to a pretty bad contraction about 1:00 a.m. We (and by we, I mean Debbi while I slept) timed them for about an hour before I woke up. By then it was pretty close to 5 minutes. We called Kathy, the Midwife and headed over to the hospital.
By the time we got here Debbi was having pretty good contractions, but by about 4:30 the epidural was in and we were ready for a little nap. About 6:00 everyone came in, Debbi pushed for about 1/2 hour and wahla… Welcome Spencer. Okay, I’m sure I’m totally simplifying this, but you can check out Debbi’s blog and maybe she will give you her side of the story.
Anyway, here are the stats.
Birthday: May 16, 2007
Time: 6:59 a.m.
Weight: 8 lbs 8 oz. (Our biggest yet… wahoo!)
Hair?: Little bit of hair… just like his Dad! ![]()
Cuteness factor: Super cute like all the rest… Even the nurses say he is a cute baby!
Coneheadedness: Maybe a little… but not much.
Eyes: Umm… blackish blue… he’s a newborn… what do you expect?
Cheeks: Big cute ones, like his Mom.
Hands/Feet: 10 toes and fingers, and I think he has big hands… maybe Grandpa Van hands…
Debbi condition: Squishy stomach… but boy oh boy does it feel nice to hug my wife again.
Sidenote: Debbi was awesome! I’m am so proud of her and so very happy she is my wife! She is amazing!
Jeff condition: Um… excited!!
Here are a couple more pictures for y’all. (Notice the AWESOME hat… thanks Bess and Shelley). Please feel free to add your welcome to Spencer… but it probably won’t be long till he has his own blog like the rest of the kids.

These pictures are great! I love the NC hat! Somehow that seems totally appropriate! You are right about the hands.. they do look like Grandpa Vans! If Spencer has that genetic link.. maybe that is a foreshadowing of things to come. I am sure he is going to be totally awesome like his Grandpa! Debbi you did good!!! And Jeff.. we love the blog.. how many new babies have a blog post the MOMENT of the their birth .. OK maybe it was 10 minutes after! Still pretty cool! Welcome to the 21st century Spencer and a Dad who knows what to do with it!

Slightly belated since Janyece is normally the one doing this stuff, but congratulations! I never realized the hospital kept stats on the cuteness factor. We’ve really been missing out!
