World of Warcraft and MormonTechie Blog

August 29th, 2008 by Jeff · 2 Comments

You know how sometimes you are in a blogging mode and sometimes you aren’t… I guess I am in one now… Aubrey is not. :) Randi is always in one (did you know you have 245 posts, and 1297 comments on your blog… wow). Sorry for overwhelming your inbox… but y’all are just such a great audience. :)

I’m not sure I ever told y’all, but I also write a lot about technology and the gospel a blog called MormonTechie.com. Today I read an article about World of Warcraft (WoW) and the dangers it presents from a spiritual perspective and wrote another article in response: “Games for Learning in Spiritual Education.” I have personally never played WoW, but I know it can be extremely addicting.

Anyway, the article gives some great points for keeping our homes and kids safe. I realize that this type of addiction starts early. I am a bit worried because I encourage my kids to play on the computer. It is educational games, but I need to be wise, or else when they get older that is just the natural outgrowth. I thought it might be of interest to y’all.

Most often I will cross post things on my blog here that I think might be of interest to y’all, but some of you more techie folks might want to check out MormonTechie every once in a while.

Love you all!

CJ says that he would second the dangers of WoW. (I think that is funny because I always associate WoW with word of wisdom… hum…) I had a lot of friends in the singles ward that would play those alternate reality computer games with ALL of their free time. It was a bit of a turn off. So, if nothing else, it can be a danger to your child’s dating prospects. :-)

I played Warcraft several times right after getting home from my mission. I enjoyed it, but I only played it several times with like 4 friends while we were all networked together at a guy’s work. They were really into it, but I thought they were into it too far. I think using temperance is the key in all things. The game may be fun, but you just can’t get to involved with it. You have to see it for what it is.
